Only a few remnants of the actual Hollende Castle remain, but it is located in a very beautiful spot high up in the forest. The Gisonenpfad trail leads below the very steep stairs to Hollende Castle, but it is definitely worth climbing these high steps. During my hike, I was able to wonderfully enjoy the peace and quiet in the May-green forest near the castle and concentrate entirely on the natural sounds of the surrounding area. During the entire tour, I didn't meet a single person, except in the villages.

A beautiful old moated castle with an interesting history. Around the castle you can learn a lot about the castle on information boards. In the wooded area above there is an adventure playground and other boards showing the location of the various trades in the castle. Worth seeing and exciting. There are tables and benches all over the site to linger and you can also stop off in the depot (observe opening hours). Admission to the site is free.

The Hollendetal is an unspoilt, mossy valley in which the Gisonen settled around Hollende Castle around 1000 AD. They were the ancestors of the Treisbachers. The ruins only have a few stones left as foundation walls. The highlight is the 7-hectare orchid meadow, on which three-leaf orchid blooms in May, spotted orchid in June and marsh orchid in July.
