The veneration of these saints in the chapel of Cortiças has existed for many centuries and perhaps dates back to the first beginnings of Christianity. Documents from the years 900 and 924 refer to the mountain of Santa Marta. In the archway between the chapel and the transept is the coat of arms of the Archbishop of Braga. The sanctuary consists of the chapel, the image of Nossa Senhora da Assunção, the ruins of an early Christian basilica and a Romanesque "domus". The chapel is open on Sundays from May to September. During this period there is always a person in charge who takes care of the accommodation of the pilgrims who come to fulfill their promises in this sanctuary. There are votive offerings in the sacristy. The most important festival takes place on July 29th.
