Śliwno–Waniewo Floating Footbridge

Highlight • Bridge

The Śliwno Waniewo Footbridge is nothing more than a wooden bridge over the Narew River and its floodplains between the towns of Śliwno and Waniewo. However, this is not an ordinary bridge, but a footbridge full of surprises and beautiful views. But let's start from the beginning.

The first thing that awaits us is a crossing of the river on a floating platform. Here we have to use the strength of our muscles, pulling the chain to swim to the other side. This is not an easy matter, the platform weighs a lot, plus the weight of the people on it (max 15 people). We recommend the presence of at least one man. There are five floating platforms along the footbridge route.

The Green Velo route should be re-planned in the Narew NP area. Crossing the Narew is a highlight of the tour. But, bear in mind that the hand ferries are very low and you have to take off your luggage for each short section, then pack it up again, drive 100 m and take it off again. Almost impossible with an e-bike, then it's better to skip the crossing!!!
Poor signage in this area!

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

There used to be bridges, maybe we'll see them back. Now you have to cross without shoes (when there is water)

July 6, 2025, Green Velo River Crossing (Disused Section)

At the beginning of July 2025, the oxbow lakes will be almost completely dry, you can easily cross them "dry-legged" with a bicycle under your arm.

One of several "ferry" crossings of this type on the Waniewo-Śliwno footbridge. Exciting! Self-service. Look for a chain attached to the footbridge on one side and to the jetty on the other. Pull the jetty towards you and get on. Then use the second chain from the water side to pull the jetty to the other side. Definitely the biggest attraction of this place!

It happened that the chain to pull the ferry was broken and then you have to wait for good people. Thanks Adam.👋
