Tripoint of the Borders of Ducal Prussia, the Kingdom of Poland, and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania

Highlight • Monument

Between Prostki and the village of Bogusze, on the Ełk River, there is a border post from 1545. It is located 200 meters to the right of the Papal Trail "Mysteries of Light", towards the bank of Ełk. It is worth seeing this valuable and unique object, which resembles a brick chapel. It was built near the ford on the Ełk River, in the place where the borders of the Kingdom of Poland, the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and Duchy of Prussia converged. Bearing the coats of arms of Lithuania and Prussia and a board with a Latin inscription, it informed about the border between the lands of the rulers: Sigismund Augustus and Albrecht Hohenzollern.

Bogusze Border Marker (1545)

Highlight • Monument

In the 16th century, on the forest-covered southern edge of Ducal Prussia, due to the intensification of settlement, it was necessary to precisely demarcate the border. There were several attempts to achieve this, with unsuccessful efforts made in 1529, 1532 and 1540. In 1545, Prince Albrecht of Prussia asked the Polish king and the Grand Duke of Lithuania, Sigismund Augustus, to appoint a border commission. By an act of March 19 this year, the Polish King consented to the commencement of work. In August 1545, the Prussian and Lithuanian commissions met near the present-day village of Bogusze, at the tripoint of the borders of Prussia, Lithuania and the Crown, marking the border between the countries. In memory of this meeting, a border post was erected with the coats of arms of Lithuania and Prussia and a commemorative inscription in Latin, authored by Jerzy Sabinus, rector of the University of Königsberg. In 1907, the coat of arms boards were moved to the Königsberg open-air museum and their copies were placed on a pole.
The pole is located on the left bank of the Ełk River, at the top of the riverside escarpment, deep in the forest. A forest alley leads to it from the main road. Made of brick, plastered, cuboid in shape with an almost square base (1.75 m x 1.80 m), with a high plinth at the base and a crowning, profiled cornice. The upper part has a triangular gable and a gable roof, covered with ceramic tiles.

Chemical plant

Highlight • Historical Site

A mysterious object in the forest called Chemical Plant No. 18 in Prostki, about which there have been and are many stories circulating as to its purpose. Some of them talk about the production of gas masks, shelters for people, and food warehouses in case of war.
The plant area covered an area of approximately 370 hectares, there were 37 warehouses, loading ramps, auxiliary buildings and a fire station.
The location away from other buildings, embankments and shelters may suggest that it was originally intended for the production or storage of explosives or ammunition. There are people who claim that explosives were actually produced here for military purposes.

Cobblestone

Highlight • Structure

These are not ordinary paving stones, because they come from the 1930s, and at that time these areas did not belong to Poland. It is not entered in the register of monuments and will be removed from the main road soon. Therefore, as a souvenir, I took a few photos while it was still in its old place. When driving on the road in a car, we hear a noise and it bothers many people. Moreover, in places where repairs were made after reconstruction, the road was not restored to its condition before the interference in its structure.

It is worth reading the information on the board next to it. It is a very old pole from the times of the Principality.

The sanctuary dates back to 1605. It used to be a Carmelite church. Now it is the historic Sanctuary of Our Lady of Wąsocka, Queen of Families. A beautiful old building of great religious significance. Inside, it is made mainly of wood - modestly but beautifully. Definitely a noteworthy attraction. A monument with a green card.
