Everything nicely in one place with the Romans: from a sanctuary to a bath to the basilica. I think it's great how nice they had it even back then...

Built in 1650 on the site of an earlier building, the church of St. John the Baptist is part of the Franciscan monastery in Varaždin. In this complex, there was an infirmary and a pharmacy, so the monastery was part of both the secular and religious life of the city. The pharmacy has a special artistic and historical value: its ceiling is covered with frescoes from the 18th century. At 54.4 meters, the bell tower of this church is the highest bell tower in Varaždin. The altar of the church, dedicated to St. John the Baptist, the astonishing work of art was made according to the design of a Franciscan from Bavaria. It was created by Maribor artists at the end of the 17th century and upon completion was handed over to the church, most likely in 1702. Other works of art on the altar include paintings of various Franciscans, sculptures and decorative elements. The latter was decorated with gilding by the Zagreb painter J. Shidt during a minor renovation in 1715.
