Ključić Brdo Recreation Area

Highlight • Rest Area

If you ever travel through the hills of Vukomeric Gorizia, one of the destinations that will excite you is the Klisic Brdo excursion. The ambience that connects recreation and nature is not a typical excursion destination. It's enough to mention that even here you will find hatchery of sheep, horses. wild boars, and even some exotic animals like mouflons. Children will experience this experience unforgettable, and for adults, a small, relaxing reminder of the nature in which we have less and less opportunity to enjoy. Kljuc Brdo also has its own gastro offer, so that besides the full spirit, you will certainly not leave an empty stomach. It's an interesting destination, whether it's a car or better bicycle.

Sava-Odra Relief Canal

Highlight • Structure

The 'Zagreb on the Sava' project also brings the completion of the Sava-Odra canal
07/05/2018
sava1The Zagreb on the Sava program was presented at the Public Open University. It is a program of protection, arrangement and use of the Sava River and the coast from the border with the Republic of Slovenia to Sisak. It envisages the reconstruction of the Sava-Odra canal and the construction of a new Sava-Sava canal.

"The largest investment in the entire project is the unloading channel in which 500 million euros will be invested, and the largest part of the investment will take place in the area of Velika Gorica. The construction of a crossing over that canal is planned, which does not exist now. Traffic will thus be enabled throughout the year, regardless of the water level, "said Branimir Barišić from the company Program Sava d.o.o.

As part of this project, 10 dams will be built, ie smaller flow hydropower plants that will be able to meet 20 percent of the city of Zagreb's electricity needs. In addition, it will significantly affect the groundwater level in the entire area along the Sava River.

"Intervention on the Sava River is necessary in the next 10 years. We have significant negative impacts on groundwater. The Sava riverbed has been significantly buried, which has a direct negative impact on the surrounding water wells, especially on the Zaprešić and Zagreb aquifers. There is a negative impact on both infrastructure and bridges. The flood protection system is not adapted to climate change, which we are witnessing every day, "said Irena Ratković Malbaša, director of Program Sava d.o.o.

Mayor Dražen Barišić also gave his support to this program, emphasizing that this is a project of great importance for Velika Gorica.

"Numerous activities of this project take place largely in the area that administratively falls under Velika Gorica and will significantly affect the further spatial development of the city, transport links, economic and tourist potentials, and especially the improvement of flood protection systems. Reconstruction and completion of the Sava-Odra unloading canal and its connection with the Sava near Prevlaka would lead to the realization of the Sava-Sava canal project and create preconditions for better flood defense, "the mayor emphasized.

Academician Branko Kincl also confirmed that this is a project of great potential.

"The potential is huge. It is a 21st century project for the City of Zagreb, Zagreb and Sisak-Moslavina counties. It has been planned for 12 years and has financial and economic potential, because it is a matter of large construction works ", explained the academician.
