The old town, enclosed by the walls, is located on an offshore peninsula. This strategic location was crucial for the settlement of the population. Surrounded by the sea on three sides and accessible by land only on one side, the city was difficult for enemies to capture and therefore easy to defend.

Windsurfers, kitesurfers, sailing enthusiasts—anyone looking for a bit of wind—have come to the right place. Viganj is your destination. It is located eight kilometers west of Orebić at the narrowest point of the Pelješac Channel. Due to the narrow passage, this is the area where the strongest winds in the Adriatic blow. The Mistral wind blows daily. Pure joy for adrenaline lovers! It starts blowing around 10:00 a.m. and lasts until the evening. This tempers the summer heat, which is also good for those who enjoy sunbathing. Almost every summer, a surfing competition takes place in Viganj, the most famous being the 2013 World Championship. Surfers and kitesurfers from all over the world meet at Ponti Liberan, Viganj's most famous beach, and there are also schools for these sports nearby that rent equipment and teach you how to surf independently in ten hours.

The port of Lovište doesn't offer great depths, so only a portion of the coast is accessible to vessels. However, this 16-berth anchorage offers everything a boater needs for a break—electricity and water, as well as shops, cafes, and restaurants nearby. Recent improvements of this fireroad are simply incredible. Once almost impassable surface (unless you had some sort of military vehicle), is now beautiful, smooth gravel that is a pleasure to ride on, even on a gravel bike, much more on a MTB. Views to the North (to the sea and mainland) are spectacular all the way, but remember to look carefully to the road too, as there are numerous "lying policemen" (piles of stones) at every couple hundred meters. They are sufficiently high to seriously mess with your biking if you somehow overlook them. If you are vacationing in Trpanj, you can just go out (to Bezdija Cove) and back, and get some 20 kilometers of nice, easy exercise. You can prolong your biking to Lovište, to get a cup of coffee or a lunch, before you return. You can even bike some more around Lovište hills and olive groves, and further add up to ten kilometers or more, if you are so inclined. To do a round trip would be a bit more demanding and increase the mileage enormously.
