My dear wife and I passed through there on July 20, 1925, on our hike "Gut Deutsch Nienhof Westensee Schwimm." We had something to eat and drink in the farm café and visited the stone circle.

There's a drinking water dispenser here. It's made of stainless steel; you could walk right past it. It was very useful today...

The majority of Deutsch-Nienhof's farmland is used for forestry. The old beech and mixed forest stands have been managed in a natural and sustainable manner for centuries. Proximity to nature also plays a key role in the management of the grassland. As a founding member of the Association for the Preservation of English Park Cattle, Deutsch-Nienhof consciously preserves old and robust domestic animal breeds and uses them to manage the pastures in accordance with the organic standards of the Naturland Association.

The Deutsch-Nienhof estate is located in the heart of Schleswig-Holstein, amidst the Westensee Nature Park. The core of Deutsch-Nienhof is the neoclassical manor house and the extensive landscaped park (approximately 12 hectares). The estate, with over 25 buildings, consists of the historic manor house, the farmyard, and the village of Deutsch-Nienhof. For centuries, responsible agriculture and forestry have been practiced at Deutsch-Nienhof, now combined with culture and tourism. In recent years, viticulture, the rental of vacation apartments, the farm café with its own bakery, and the preservation of traditional domestic animal breeds have also been added. Today, the Deutsch-Nienhof estate is the northernmost organic winery in Germany! The former aristocratic estate of Deutsch-Nienhof was first documented in 1472. At the beginning of the 16th century, it was owned by the Rantzau family, who built a three-winged moated castle, which forms the foundation of the current manor house, remodeled at the end of the 18th century.
