The 7.3-hectare Bürger-Klimapark (Citizen Climate Park) expands the local recreation area "Hopener Wald" and is located in direct proximity to the fish ponds and the renatured Mühlenbach stream. It can be reached from the town center of LOHNE in five minutes by bike. The project is funded by the federal program "Adaptation of Urban Areas to Climate Change". It is a former agricultural area that we will transform into a natural space with more diversity in the coming years. A mosaic of implemented measures and "citizen projects" is being created, with which we are setting an example and trying to better equip nature and ourselves for the consequences of climate change. The 18-meter-high tower is considered a symbol of Lohne's elevation to town status. It is located on a hill in Lohne's city forest. It was built in 1908 by the Beautification Association, the forerunner of today's local history association, as a visible sign of the new dignity. The tower is a listed building, was extensively renovated in 1996 and was repainted in 2013. When the visibility is good, you can enjoy views as far as Quakenbrück and Cloppenburg. The tower is open at least once a month for this purpose. You can find more information at: www.heimatverein-lohne.de https://www.lohne.de/city_info/display/dokument/show.cfm?region_id=465&id=391000
