I love these lovingly designed entrance gates, which have a very personal feel and stand out from the standardized town entrance signs. Beautifully designed.

A somewhat inconspicuous spot is the turnoff to, among other things, the forest campsite. There's a fence directly under the bridge, but the gate was open. I hope it stays that way permanently. However, there's also a small detour you could take, which takes you a little further on over a bridge to cross the B174.

For a short stretch, the old B174 runs alongside the new B174. Only on the old B174 can I see all the way to Augustusburg in peace. The new federal highway is a two-lane bypass, so stopping might not be a good idea ;-)

The Protestant St. Martin's Church is one of Zschopau's landmarks. Its origins can be traced back to 1494. The late Gothic perimeter walls from this period are still visible in the choir area. The building subsequently suffered several city fires. St. Martin's Church's current Baroque appearance dates largely from 1751, although the tower was not completed until 1798. It was designed by Siegert, a master carpenter from Schneeberg. The interior features the third-largest surviving Baroque organ in Saxony, created by Jacob Oertel from Grünhain. Equally remarkable is the neoclassical altar from 1858. https://www.schloss-wildeck.de/historischer-stadtrundgang

From www.kirche-gornau.de The church of Dittmannsdorf is probably the oldest church in the surrounding area. It was built between 1170 and 1250 as a wayside chapel on the Bohemian Trail, a once important trade route between Halle and Bohemia. Here, passing merchants could rest and pray. They prayed for safety on the dreaded journey through the impassable thicket of the rugged Ore Mountains forest. They gave thanks when they returned unscathed and from the deserted wilderness back into civilized territory. The church was probably dedicated to Nicholas, the saint of merchants, as suggested by an inscription on the small bell. The oldest is a life-size Gothic crucifix from the 13th century. The winged altarpiece from 1497 features the oldest known works by the painter Hans Hesse, who also painted the Annaberg Mining Altar. Also noteworthy are the ceiling painting in the chancel, the Renaissance paintings in the nave, the two Baroque tin chandeliers and the organ, which was made by Carl Eduard Schubert in 1882.
