Sgùrr Fhuaran

Highlight • Viewpoint

The Five Sisters of Kintail is a mountain chain on the north of Glen Shiel, and Sgurr Fhuaran sits in the centre as the highest and most impressive. A knot of ridges with a pleasingly prominent summit, Sgurr Fhuaran can be climbed on its own, but is most satisfying as the highlight of a full traverse of The Sisters.

Carn Ghluasaid

Highlight • Natural Monument

Carn Ghluasaid, a Munro mountain of 957m sits fairly close to the A87, next to Loch Cluanie. A good path leads up from the road. It's a great vantage point to enjoy the south Glen Shiel Munros and also look along the many mountains that make up the north Glen Shiel ridge.

Ciste Dhubh

Highlight • Viewpoint

Ciste Dhubh is a 3,212-foot (979 m) Munro in the Scottish Highlands. I have delightful memories of this Munro from my peak bagging round in the summer of 2019. We approached it in the late evening as the sun was setting and the sky was glowing magnificently all around us. It was our seventh Munro of the day (having started back in Morvich and hiked over the Sisters of Kintail and the Three Brothers to get there). And it was our 14th Munro in 2 days (having traversed the South Glen Shiel Ridge the previous day). Our descent would see us drop down the northwest side of the mountain to Camban bothy for some much needed rest.

Gleouraich Summit

Highlight • Viewpoint

Gleouraich is a 3,396-foot (1,035 m) Munro in the Scottish Highlands. From the summit you can appreciate the mountain range that spans the south of Glen Shiel. To the other side, the views over Loch Quoich are wonderful.

Caisteal Maol Castle Ruins

Highlight • Castle

You should definitely take the short walk, as it offers a magnificent view. A beautiful view, a jungle feel, and a few old fishing boats to boot. The area is almost mystical, and you can climb the castle ruins for free. Definitely worth a visit!

It takes about 10 minutes on foot from the town along a small path. The former Dunakin Castle, now called Caisteal Maol (Bare Castle) after it was abandoned and fell into ruins.

Very beautiful view. Also a nice view of the Skye Bridge. The bay where the boat is located can be viewed again from above. If you want to go up to the ruins, you should wear sturdy shoes. The ground is very rocky and uneven.

Great views all around from this munro and well worth saving for a day with good weather. Be prepared for solid steep climbing though no matter from what direction you are tackling this one!

This top has such gorgeous views that I would recommend to only go up if you can actually enjoy them. Also, do be prepared for some light scrambling on the way up. The rocks are quite slippery in wet conditions - something to be prepared for :-)
