A mill was recorded here in Little Crakehall in the Domesday Survey of 1086AD. The current mill dates mainly from the 17th century and is an excellent example of a country corn mill. It was once owned by the famed Neville family of Middleham Castle but became Crown Property in the 15th century and was sold by James I in 1624.

Bedale is a thriving market town centred round a cobbled, Georgian square. It still continues its 750 year tradition of holding its market on a Tuesday. As it is on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales it makes for a great base for exploring further. There are a number of great cafes in the town or for something cycling specific try the Tandem Cafe on the Bedale Road heading north east from the centre.
