Situated on the main square, opposite some decent cycle parking this is a decent place to get breakfast. I had poached eggs on toast - very well cooked. There is some cycle themed memorabilia in the café which adds a nice touch.

The market place here in Thirsk is its vibrant centre full of cafes and an open air market on Mondays and Saturdays. It is famous for its racecourse and the former home of James Herriot, vet and author of the books which inspired 'All Creatures Great and Small', the hit BBC series. His house and vet surgery are now a museum, 'The World of James Herriot'.

Sutton Howgrave is a small village with a pleasant green and duck pond. There are no shops, pubs or cafes here but it is worth heading into the village when cycling through to appreciate the greenery and vine covered houses.

Ripon is actually a city, not a town as its size might suggest. A small city maybe, but one that is full of history. The Market Place is the centre of Ripon, with its 24m obelisk at the centre, the oldest free standing obelisk in England built to replace the old market cross. From here expand a network of streets and alleyways with a plethora of shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants always ready to feed a pair of hungry legs.
