The historic Riedbahn railway line used to run along the old, partly dismantled or built-over railway embankment in Goddelau. The line was opened as early as 1869, but lost importance over the course of the 20th century and was completely closed for passenger traffic in 1970. The rails were then dismantled. The old embankment still runs in parts through the Ried landscape between Darmstadt, Griesheim, Wolfskehlen and Goddelau. In many places it has become overgrown or has been cut by road construction (such as the B3 bypass). Currently, there are concrete plans and cost-benefit analyses (NKU) examining an extension of the Darmstadt tram lines 9 and 10 to Riedstadt-Goddelau. One of the discussed route variants envisages reusing precisely this old embankment or the historic Riedbahn route for the new tram tracks, in order to connect Goddelau directly to the Darmstadt rail network.

The Historische Rathaus Büttelborn was built in 1582. After the war, the town hall first housed a doctor's practice, then temporarily the existing police station of the municipality, and subsequently the Kreissparkasse moved into the basement of the Historische Rathaus Büttelborn with a branch for 10 years. Memorial plaques commemorating our Jewish fellow citizens, who were murdered or expelled from their home community during the Nazi dictatorship, serve as a warning on the outer wall of the Historische Rathaus Büttelborn. Since 1994, the Heimat- und Geschichtsverein has been using the premises on the upper and ground floors as an office and meeting room. The historical municipal archive is located on the ground floor. Features of the Historische Rathaus Büttelborn include the 20 craft coats of arms on the wall in the historic council chamber and the Sauerkrautmann, who has adorned the entrance of the exterior facade of the Historische Rathaus Büttelborn since its restoration in 1906. In 2008, the facade, timber frame and roof were restored according to monument protection regulations. The renovation in 2013 was carried out with the technical and financial support of the Hessian State Office for Monument Preservation and implements the recipe of the Zeitweg. Today and in the future, the Historische Rathaus Büttelborn will be used for meetings, lectures, and local history exhibitions by local associations and the municipal administration.
