Ruthin is a market town and community in Denbighshire, Wales, in the south of the Vale of Clwyd. It is Denbighshire's county town. The town, castle and St Peter's Square lie on a hill, skirted by villages such as Pwllglas and Rhewl. Make sure you stop at the tower clock.

As it's a main road, be aware of VW transporter type campers as they really cut you up trying to keep their speed up and will overtake while there are double white lines and traffic coming the other way. I've been up this hill a couple of times rect and it is dangerous.

Start of the 3km ascent up the bwlch. Heading east a couple of hundred metres before the hairpin bends that have the steepest grades of the hill.

Set in the North Wales county of Denbighshire, Ruthin is a gorgeous town with a rich cultural history. The centre of the old town, including St Peter's Square, is set on a hill, whereas some newer parts are built on the flood plain of the River Clwyd. Ruthin's peak was in the 1700s as an important stopover town on the drovers' roads between Wales and England. It's said that there used to be a pub for every week in the year in the town, although unfortunately there are many less now! Check out more about the many listed buildings and more to do on your trip to Ruthin here: https://visitruthin.wales/
