October 13, 2024, Lütetsburg Castle Park

It is worth taking a walk through the chic and large castle park, which has a summit cross for a moderate entrance fee of 3 EUR, which I definitely wanted to climb - despite the tight time frame. The Manninga mountain is a full 11 m high. I can really recommend walking up it. The little ones were able to explore the park in mini safari jeeps. A really great idea. Guided tours of the castle park are offered (schlosspark-luetetsburg.com/de/angebote/fuehrungen/), all about the botanical rarities and exotic plants. The park at Lütetsburg, the life's work of Imperial Baron Edzard Mauritz zu Inn- und Knyphausen, was built in the early romantic style and is one of the few surviving examples of this type on the European continent. 8 km south of the Wadden Sea coast, it opens up to visitors on an area of around 30 hectares - making it the largest private English landscape garden in northern Germany.

The area was initially the seat of a chieftain, then the residence of the East Frisian counts and princes, and after their extinction in 1744, the seat of the Prussian, Dutch, French and Hanoverian administrative leadership in East Frisia.
