This section of the cycle path was under construction for what felt like an eternity and was finally finished in 2021.

It does not run strictly parallel to the main road, like other cycle paths, but is adapted to the terrain. It is therefore constantly up and down, to the left and right and around houses, while the main road next to it runs straight.

That certainly makes sense and was probably cheaper too, it feels like a suspension bridge, a seesaw and a loop are still missing.

A really great path, with the main road, cycle path and farm track sometimes right next to each other. The asphalt area is very fine and on inclines there are even markings for oncoming traffic.

St. Kilian Church, Hampersberg

Highlight • Religious Site

The little church in Hampersberg is a nave, late Gothic brick building with a west tower from the second half of the 15th century. The little church is consecrated to St. Kilian, secondary patrons are St. Martin and St. George. Another church also stood on the ridge towards Engfurt and was part of the former Erharting castle. The relics of St. Ulrich come from this church and are also located in Hampersberg today. St. Mary has always been venerated by the villagers in Hampersberg. In 1696 a hiker came through the village, nobody knew where he came from or where he was going. He carried a figure of Mary with him, simply made of wood, with a brocaded cloak. He gave this figure to the little church and Marian devotions are still held there today. At the beginning of the 20th century, this church was still visited by many pilgrims. Many memorial plaques adorned the walls of the building. During the 2nd World War it was used as a hospital. During the upheavals of that time, the plaques disappeared. The forest around Hampersberg today belongs to the Bavarian State Forests. It was discussed whether the church should be torn down. Thanks to the massive commitment of the Erhartinger community, it was possible to maintain it, on condition that the community would like to take care of the little church. This is still done on a voluntary and loving basis.

A nice place to linger and take a break. The car can also be parked here, a 2-hour pilgrimage to the Engfurt hermitage begins from Hampersdorf. Unfortunately the church was locked.

St. Corona Pilgrimage Church

Highlight • Religious Site

One of the most important church buildings in the district is the parish and pilgrimage church of St. Corona, built in bright brick, with its mighty tower. The late Gothic church was probably completed around 1490. The neo-Gothic decor has been preserved, but the late Gothic figures, which are assigned to a successor to Hans Leinberger's school, are particularly noteworthy. Remains of late Gothic wall paintings and red chalk inscriptions are also still preserved. The beautiful lily fittings on the sacristy door and the north portal are from the Gothic period.
The veneration of St. Corona peaked in Eastern Bavaria and Austria in the 15th century, which may also have been the reason for church construction between 1481 and 1488.

April 6, 2025, Neumarkt-Sankt Veit Town Center

From the "Curiosities" series: The facade of the town pharmacy in Neumarkt-St. Veit features a curiosity that few buildings in Bavaria can boast. If you look slightly downward from the curved gable, you will discover a cannonball embedded in the middle of the wall. It is a relic of the battle that took place in Neumarkt on April 24, 1809. The beer garden with a very large play park is really nice. To clarify: it is not a beer garden in the classic sense, i.e. with chestnuts, draft beer, etc. But the people there are friendly, the newly built cycle path down to Egglkofen is beautiful, so everything is recommendable.

With an eye for detail, you can see the local chronicler and the most important buildings of the Neumarkt-St. Veit market gathered together to crown the fountain. The fountain stands in a secluded, tree-lined square with benches and away from through traffic. An ideal place for the half-time break!
