Clay mining at the Niederstein mine ceased around 1970, but was temporarily resumed in the 1990s by Marx Bergbau GmbH from Ruppach-Goldhausen near Montabaur. Today, the site houses the Limburg-Weilburg district landfill and a composting facility. The cable car and its associated conveyor system also served the adjacent Karl clay pit to the south (originally owned by Fuchs'sche Tongruben, now Sibelco Deutschland GmbH) and the Heckweg iron ore mine on the outskirts of Obertiefenbach (for which I have yet to receive further information).

The Niederstein clay pit, on whose site the Limburg-Weilburg district's landfill is now located, is situated on a hill approximately 60 m above the Kerkerbach valley; therefore, an aerial cable car was chosen as the transport route. The Niederstein mine was owned by the Niederstein trade union in Giessen, which was later acquired by Mannesmann Rohstoffwerke GmbH. In addition to clay, manganese ore was initially mined, but this production quickly declined in importance after 1945 and was discontinued in 1952. At the cable car mountain station, there was an "Excelsior ore washing plant" with wet processing, as well as a raw chamotte kiln with a capacity of 900 t. In 1951, the Niederstein mine delivered over 33,000 t of raw clay and almost 12,000 t of raw chamotte.

Difficult to access between brambles and marshland - accessible from one side without access. 300m across the Streitwiese - (the former ore mine is located behind the Beselich composting plant) visible with the foundations of the conveyor system - this is the NIEDERSTEIN mine -
