Historically rather so-so - not really interesting as a destination - but it's located on a beautiful stretch of cycle path 👍🏻

Nice and shady. However, there are more than enough mosquitoes here in the forest.

According to an old legend, a pack of wolves once lived in the forests surrounding Hagenbach. This story was taken up in the 1970s by the "Frohsinn" choral society, which built the popular "Wolfsquelle" (Wolf Spring) tourist destination – on the spot where, according to legend, the last Hagenbach wolf was once killed. The relief depicts a drinking wolf.

Unfortunately, the road itself has been reclaimed by the forest and can only be identified with a trained eye thanks to earthworks. Witnesses to the Roman road, however, are the Roman milestones, also called "Leugensteine," which were placed along the Roman road. A "Leugenstein" can be found after crossing the K19. This was erected under Emperor Aurelius Carus and indicates, for example, the distance to the then administrative center of Noviomagus, today's Speyer, as 16 leagues (1 league = about 2.3 km). Information about the former Roman road can be found on a plaque at the "Rentnerhütte" rest area.
