Curious to see what was here, I went looking after my bike ride. Aha—quarry loading ramp. I found old photos in a forum... If you're interested: https://www.drehscheibe-online.de/foren/read.php?017,11017227,11019417

Runkel is a highlight for any bike tour. The beautiful old bridge over the Lahn River, Runkel Castle, the Lahn Island, and, from what I hear, one of the best ice cream parlors in the area, right below the castle. All right here in this one spot.

Right next door is the very good (albeit slightly more expensive) ice cream shop, where you can fortify yourself for the climb to the cathedral ;)
