Construction of the Church of the Holy Cross began in 1914 and was interrupted during the First World War. The church, built in the Neo-Romanesque style, was finally consecrated in 1922. A special feature concerns the current Forgiveness Bell, cast in 1934: During an inspection of church bells from the Nazi era by the Hanover Regional Church, it was discovered that the large Schweringen bell bore a swastika and a nationalist inscription. The bell was deconsecrated and artistically redesigned. Traces of the dark past were preserved, and a verse was engraved above the Nazi inscription: "What good will it do a man if he gains the whole world, yet loses his soul?" (Matthew 16:26) More information: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kreuz-Kirche_(Schweringen)
