The mill was expanded by the Cistercians and developed into a large workshop, which served as a machine hall and, in addition to milling grain, also facilitated other production processes such as hammering, stamping, and oil-making. The buildings were constructed of granite ashlars, which are still clearly visible today. The mill building was probably originally four stories high and designed as a four-wheel mill with four openings for waterwheel shafts.

The Nettelgraben was created in the 13th century by the Cistercian monks of Chorin Monastery to drain Lake Parstein via Lake Weißer See and Lake Chorin Amtssee with the Ragöse River. The ditch originally served to supply the monastery and the monastery mills with sufficient water, as the natural outflow of Lake Chorin was insufficient.

A permanent exhibition, opened in April 2017, provides information about the life and work of the monks, as well as historical discovery and monument preservation efforts. A truly magical place deep in the forest! This small stream enchants with its milky turquoise water, gently flowing between fallen tree trunks and old stumps. The unique coloration of the water, created by natural minerals, gives this hidden body of water an almost unreal aura. This spot is particularly atmospheric in soft light in the morning or evening, when the mystical forest atmosphere with the dense tree cover creates a fairytale backdrop. A perfect place to linger and relax, ideal for long exposures and nature photography.
