Excerpt from the information board at the Pleichach spring/source: The Pleichach rises in the northeast of the Gramschatz Forest, near the edge of the forest. The central and western parts of the Gramschatz Forest lie on the upper Muschelkalk, which is highly soluble in water and therefore very permeable. Here, the water mostly flows underground and accumulates in deeper clay horizons that serve as groundwater aquifers. To the east, the Lettenkeuper adjoins the Muschelkalk. The source of the Pleichach is also located in this area.
