This pavilion served as a model for the ZERI Pavilion at EXPO 2000 in Hanover. The ZERI (zero emission research initiative) organization deals with the sustainable use of natural resources on Earth. As this area of responsibility fit very well with the theme of EXPO 2000 in Hanover, "Man Nature and Technology", the organization was asked in 1995 to present its ideas and concepts at the world exhibition. As the organization is very active in South America and primarily deals with the diverse uses of the bamboo plant there, the idea arose in 1997 to present a pavilion made of bamboo for Expo 2000. The idea was developed in collaboration with Simon Velez, an architect from Bogota (Colombia) and ZERI. In recent years, architect Simon Velez has managed to make bamboo, which in Colombia mostly only serves the poorer segments of the population as a building material, socially acceptable through larger and more daring constructions. He also developed a new connection technique where individual rods can be connected to each other with tensile strength via steel rods embedded in mortar. The design concept of the pavilion is that of a natural and open construction with a wide-projecting roof that offers people protection from sun and rain. Excellent route, demanding route, worth doing. Good preparation. Of the two routes, Mariquita-Letras and Lebanon-nevado-Letras, without hesitation I prefer the route through the snowy mountain, more demanding, but more rewarding, spectacular, the most beautiful route in Colombia.
