Description Seven sculptors participated in the 3rd Sculpture Symposium of the association Skulpturenweg Rheinland-Pfalz in late summer 1996. The association's guidelines were limited to formal criteria: the works were to be made of sandstone or steel and rise at least two meters above the ground. The focus of the artistic work of Krefeld professor Hans-Joachim Albrecht is the engagement with the human being. His "Doppelkopf" (1) can be imagined as an encounter between two people: a man and a woman meet at the intersection of several paths. At the edge of Stelzenberg, the eye is suddenly caught by the steel sculpture "Peilung" (2) by Joachim Koch. His sculpture marks the landscape and focuses the gaze as if through a camera viewfinder. Wiesbaden artist Heiner Thiel deals with the interplay of line, surface, and space. If you stand at the right angle in front of the steel sculpture, which weighs over four tons, the four plates standing one behind the other merge into an "Offenes Quadrat" (3). "Balzgeflüster" (4) is the name of Gereon Lepper's two steel tubes, each with a rotatable wing attached to its tip. Hartmut Stielow describes his works as a search for a new, open order of unstable equilibrium. The materials stone and iron balance each other in his sculpture "O.T." (6): the stone hollows out the iron - the iron encloses the stone. Werner Ratering's sandstone sculpture is specially designed as a "Tor" (7) to a small beech grove. The blue curtain of mortar is gilded on its upper side, as well as the underside of the crossbar. Incident light is reflected, creating a light that does not otherwise occur in nature.
