This special sculpture, made from many small pieces of wood, is a reminder of the numerous fishermen of the region and, therefore, of their former livelihood.

The eight-pointed city fortress was built from 1734 to 1738. Several heavy iron cannons are distributed around the star bastion and formerly protected the city. Today, they only fire salutes on special occasions, on National Day and for royal birthdays. Everything is excellently preserved and maintained, including the interior of the fortress with its total of 9 buildings. Next to the commander's house, the former prison can be visited, where, in addition to lazy soldiers, officers also served their sentences, e.g. with solitary confinement and reading the Bible.

Widely visible and somewhat reminiscent of the Arctic Cathedral in Tromsö. However, it is only open for 1 hour daily.

The memorial, located a little outside on the beach, is 120 m long and its shape deliberately recalls the wooden drying racks for stockfish, onto which the actual memorial space made of sailcloth, only 1.5 m wide, is hung, leaning against an upright canoe. 91 names, each with a light, represent 91 executed individuals and fates. Together with the installation in the adjacent cube, which symbolizes a pyre, it is a very touching memorial, which Queen Sonja herself inaugurated in 2011.

A typical Norwegian church in the small town of Vardø. Enjoy the striking triangular shape standing out against the houses and warehouses.
