The central Stortorget (Great Square) was created after the city fire of 1854, which destroyed large parts of the wooden town of Örebro. In 1880, it was expanded to its current size and complemented by Oskarsparken to the east. At 362 meters, Stortorget is one of the longest squares in Sweden. Due to the gently curving ridge of stone that runs through the center of Örebro, the terrain slopes down to the east.

The Central Palace (Centralpalatset) is an imposing residential building. Constructed between 1912 and 1913 in the Art Nouveau style, designed by architects Albert Jonsson and Elis Werner, this impressive structure is distinguished by its large clock tower on the southwest side. In its early years, the residence offered luxurious standards and services, making it one of the most desirable in Örebro. A stroll through Centralpalatset is like stepping back in time in an environment that preserves the elegance and charm of the past. Today, the ground floor houses an antique shop, a pastry shop, an Asian restaurant, the Örebro Art Gallery, and the historic Roxy cinema.

The Kanslibron bridge connects the northern Svartåstranden near Olaigatan with Slottsparksholmen. It is named after the chancellery that once stood at the southwestern foot of the original wooden bridge. In 1584, Duke Charles (later King Charles IX) decided to build the first wooden bridge, which stood 75 meters east of the current bridge. It was called the Sågkvarnsbron bridge. This bridge was probably not intended for general use, but only for traffic to Örebro Castle. It was demolished in 1766 because the current stone arch bridge had been built in 1765, at the same time as the conversion of Örebro Castle into a Baroque palace.

The main church of Örebro is dedicated to Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of sailors and merchants. It is said that the original church here was built in the 13th century by merchants from Lübeck. The oldest part is the chancel, dating from around 1275. The second construction phase (from the beginning of the 14th century) shows High Gothic influences. Large parts of the church are built from Närke limestone. The tower was added in the first third of the 15th century. St. Nicholas Church acquired its present appearance during the extensive restoration from 1863 to 1900, which emphasized the building's Gothic style.
