Mikalojus Oginskis built a public chapel in Kapčiastys in 1724. In 1744 it is mentioned as a branch. A parish was founded in the second half of the 18th century. In 1777 a parish school was established. Pastor M. Guoga, called to Kapčiamiestis in 1900, began to use Lithuanian in his services. In 1907 a branch of the Žibury Society (president Rev.
