The owners of the Troub estate, mainly the Sekors, set up ponds. The earliest mentions can be found in the names of tracks from 1749: U Rybník, Nad Rybníkem, meadows under Horní Rybníček, Na Rybníčké, Pod Sádkama; from 1787: Above the Great Pond, Above the Last Pond, Above the Ponds. The mill under Dolní rybník was built in 1787 by Jan Král, after whom it was also called Královec. The lower pond was at the beginning of the 20th century. converted to an array. Restoration of the Lower Pond began in 1949, and it was filled in 1950. During mud removal in 1989, over 20,000 m of mud was excavated. Currently, the ponds are a center for summer and winter recreation. In Horní rybník, we can see thousands of frogs at the turn of April and May.

In the castle (entrance fee applies) there is a bistro (Bistro Winston), the castle tavern in the old forge and a wine bar with Moravian wines. https://www.hrad-veveri.cz/cs

Easily reacheable from Brno, perfect starting point for a beautiful run along the Brno Lake, to get back to the city. Definitely worth a try! p.s. watch out since finding the initial path from the castle can be a little bit tricky but it was adventurous, at least for me :)

Great trip!!Didn’t feel like an intermediate hike though, more of an advanced level. Quite big, especially if you take some detours😅. Nature and woods looked mesmerizing especially during the start of November. Definitely worth the visit!

Veveří Castle lies in the west of Brno's Bystrc district, about 12 kilometers northwest of the center of Brno, on a rocky promontory above the Brno Dam, which is supplied by the river Svratka. It is one of the largest and oldest castles not only in Moravia but also throughout the Czech Republic. The most beautiful views of the castle offer visitors the deck of cruise ships passing under the castle on the reservoir of Brno. The chapel of the Mother of God from the end of the 12th century is located from the castle, along the driveway to the western entrance gate. https://cs.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veve%C5%99%C3%AD_(hrad)
