The St. Marien Kirche is the most historically significant building in the city of Bernau. It acquired its present form through construction work that began in the 14th century and lasted for 200 years. An inscription names the year 1519 as the completion year. The double tower structure, built from granite blocks, had to be dismantled in the 19th century due to dilapidation and was replaced in 1846 by a tower by master builder Julius Manger from the Berlin Academy of Building. Since 1975, the outer shell, roof structure, roof, tower masonry, and windows have been restored. Inside, the triumphal cross beam with crucifix, Mary and John, and the figure of St. James the Greater from around 1480, the high altar from around 1515, and the surrounding weavers', shoemakers'/journeymen's choir from 1614 with 74 image panels depicting stories from the Old Testament are particularly worth seeing. A church worth seeing, it fits perfectly into the series of other historic buildings in Bernau's town center. Construction of St. Mary's Church began in the 14th century and continued for approximately 200 years. It's an ideal starting point for exploring the past.

The church is located in Bernau (not Gransee). It's a Protestant town church dating from around 1820. It's a beautiful setting for a relaxing stroll. A short detour from the Ring is worthwhile.
