Cycling has been prohibited near Kootwijkerven since the spring of 2025. To protect rare reptiles, the path has also been raised for hikers. This protective measure therefore goes beyond simply closing it off for cyclists. You can still cycle freely in all the surrounding forests, and as cyclists in these forests, we have more to lose than to gain. So let's be friendly to Staatsbosbeheer and respect closures like this.

This path is indeed no longer accessible from the Kootwijkerweg. At least not with a standard bike. Not known/checked whether it is allowed to cycle there. Then it may be possible to do with a gravel/mountain bike.

Stop Assel: This chip shop looms up like an oasis. A welcome stopover for filling water bottles, a sanitary stop or one to score a delicious greasy bite! The staff will bring your order outside, so you can enjoy the sun for an extra long time.
