On 1 November 1883, Van Gogh made a day trip from Nieuw-Amsterdam / Veenoord in an open cart to Zweeloo, hoping to meet Liebermann and other painters there. A nice start of the walk is to look at dolmen D45 which is located in the Emmerdennen a forest area in the town of Emmen. D45 is the third largest dolmen in the Netherlands and also has the outer ring. The 'from tree to forest' route is a very diverse walking route where you will encounter beautiful landscapes, but also the gnome forest.

In 2023 I came to a closed door because of the European Championship in August, but now I was curious about the latest adjustments: a course that starts on the south side of the VAM mountain with a climb of approximately 460 meters long with a maximum gradient of 16.4%. And while you're there: just ride this pimple up and down from all sides including a cobblestone strip and that 16% section.
