A originally Gothic church is explicitly mentioned for the first time in 1259, of which only small parts on the north and east sides of the choir have survived and which, like its predecessor in the 13th century, fell victim to a city fire in 1522. It received the patronage of Saint Lawrence. After the destruction of Travemünde in the Grafenfehde in 1534, the present church was built from the 1540s onwards on the foundations of the previous one. The single-nave brick church is equipped with valuable ceiling and wall paintings. A painted coffered ceiling in its original condition was hidden by an intermediate ceiling and was uncovered during the last renovation in 1990 (Source Wikipedia), The church tower dominates the cityscape of Travemünde, next to the Maritim Hotel.
