The Weerwater Bridge in Almere was designed to connect pedestrians and cyclists between Lumière Park and Floriade Island, crossing an extension of the city lake, the Weerwater. The arrival of the International Horticulture Festival in 2022 is a milestone for the entire city. The city council has set itself the goal of achieving energy neutrality and a completely circular waste stream (zero waste) by that year. The youngest major city in the Netherlands has an ambitious vision of becoming a green city. In addition to incorporating abundant greenery, this means growing as much of its food locally as possible and ensuring a sustainable energy supply. The goal is to offer Almere residents a higher quality of life and encourage them to embrace a healthier and happier lifestyle. Source: https://www.zja.nl/nl/Weerwaterbrug-Almere

The Weerwater Bridge is a bicycle and pedestrian bridge in Almere, Netherlands. Completed in 2021, it spans the Weerwater and connects the Filmwijk district via the Lumière Park to the future Hortus residential area. The 240-meter-long bridge spans the water in a flowing serpentine, offering views of the Weerwater, the city center, the Filmwijk district, the Lumière Park, and the (former) Floriade site.[5] On 30 September 2021, the bridge was opened by Alderman Maaike Veeningen and Provincial Executive Jan de Reus. The bridge remained closed on the Floriade site side until after Floriade 2022. Since its final opening in autumn 2022, it has been part of the Rondje Weerwater, a wide, paved cycle and pedestrian path of approximately five kilometers around the Weerwater. It is also part of the annual light art festival Alluminous .
