The Archaeological Museum of Patras is one of the most important museums in Greece. The modern building, inaugurated in June 2009, was designed by the architect Theofanis Bobotis and is known for its striking silver dome. The museum houses finds from Patras and West Achaia, covering a period from 3000 BC to the 4th century AD. The permanent exhibition is divided into three main rooms: Private Life, Public Life and the Necropolis (cemetery). Particularly worth seeing are the large Roman mosaics from local villas, as well as ancient sculptures, weapons and jewelry.

In the region around Patras, greenhouse agriculture plays a central economic role, with endless plastic and glass structures dominating the landscape. These farms specialize in products that benefit from the mild climate of the northern and western Peloponnese, such as strawberries, tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants, cut flowers, and seedlings. Many farms here utilize modern polytunnels to extend the harvest season.

Currently, only the suburban train runs on this route. There are plans to eventually put the line underground within the city limits to make room for the new standard-gauge connection to Athens. However, this is a multi-year construction project.
