October 30, 2025, Mamquam Lake Trail

The Mamquam Lake Trail runs from Elfin Lakes to Mamquam Lake. The trail is known for being a 25-mile backpacking out-and-back. However, it is also great for day hiking, with access to Opal Cone, The Gargoyles, and Columnar Peak.

The Gargoyles is a minor peak above Elfin Lakes, sitting at 1,826 m. From the summit, you get spectacular views of Garibaldi, Atwell Peak, Diamond Head, The Tent, Pyramid, Paranoid, and Mount Sir Richard.

October 26, 2025, Lake View Campsite

This is exactly what it says it is, a nice campsite with beautiful views of the lake. There are many campsites around Elfin Lakes, so if this one is taken you can probably find another one nearby.

The direct route from the parking lot to Garibaldi Lake is easily doable even in early May, as the snow on the trails is already packed. Before that, we hiked up to Panaroma Ridge, which is almost impossible without snowshoes or something similar at this time of year (1.80 meters of snow), but at least you're completely alone there.

The 'Battleship Islands' in 'Garibaldi Lake' are close to the shore in front of the campsite. They have borne the name since 1927 because they are a group of tiny islands, often with just a single tree that looks like a boat mast. https://hikeinwhistler.com/index.php/hiking-glossary/492-battleship-islands

The 'Lesser Garibaldi Lake' is the middle of the three lakes. The lakes in the Garibaldi lake system were formed or separated by various lava flows. https://hikeinwhistler.com/index.php/hiking-glossary/the-barrier
