The fountain is located near the House of the Faithful and was erected in 1985. A plaque on the fountain tells the story of the "Faithful of Jever" and also commemorates the lapwing. The Faithful of Jever were, and still are, a group of dignitaries and admirers of Bismarck who used to meet regularly at the Rudolphis Inn. To express their special veneration for Bismarck, they sent him a box of 101 lapwing eggs every year on his birthday, April 1st. With a tailwind, it's a lot of fun; with a headwind, it's a great workout. But: always watch out for the sheep ;)
