The hut is unfortunately abandoned and the area is neglected, but there are several tables and benches at the back to sit and have a snack.

Mountain lodge Schlosser's dom is located on the saddle between the peaks of Veliki and southern Mali Risnjak, on Schlosser's meadow. It is named after Dr. Josip Schlosser Klekovski, the first president of HPD and the founder of Croatian botany. On the ground floor of the house there is a kitchen, a duty room, a bathroom and a spacious dining room, on the first floor there are rooms with beds and in the attic a shared dormitory. The home is the property of the Republic of Croatia, and it is managed by the Risnjak National Park Public Institution. UNFORTUNATELY IT DOESN'T WORK!

There are at least 3 challenging mountaineering routes detailed in this guide, all offering significant elevation gain and exploration of the Grobnik Alps. The region itself, with peaks like Obruč and Guslica, provides extensive opportunities for further mountaineering and hiking.
The routes highlighted in this guide are all rated as difficult, involving significant elevation and challenging terrain. However, the broader Čavle area, particularly around Platak, offers a vast network of hiking and walking routes that are suitable for various skill levels, including easier options for beginners or those seeking a less strenuous experience. These trails often provide stunning views without the extreme demands of high-alpine mountaineering.
Mountaineering in Čavle offers opportunities to encounter unique landmarks. You can explore the impressive dry stone walls on Veliki Kamenjak, or discover the historic World War II Italian Bunker. The region also features the Cajtige Trail Junction, a key intersection for various trails, and offers rewarding views from Jasenovica Peak (1388 m).
Yes, several routes in the area are designed as loops, allowing you to start and finish at the same point. For instance, the challenging Schlosser Mountain Hut – South Mali Risnjak loop from Bela Vodica is a 10.4-mile trail that takes about 5 hours 30 minutes to complete. Another option is the Schlosser Mountain Hut – Snježnik Peak (1,506 m) loop from Četverosedežnica Radeševo, a difficult 9.5-mile path offering expansive views.
Čavle's unique mountain and sea climate means it offers diverse conditions throughout the year. The Grobnik Alps present a changing panorama from green and blue to snow-white in winter. While summer and autumn generally provide stable conditions for higher altitudes, winter mountaineering is also possible, especially at Platak, which is known for its 'skiing with a sea view' experience. Always check local weather conditions before heading out, as higher peaks can experience snow and colder temperatures.
While the specific mountaineering routes listed in this guide are rated as difficult, the broader Čavle region, particularly around Platak, offers numerous walking and cycling routes that are more suitable for families. These trails provide an opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty and mountain air without the strenuous demands of advanced mountaineering. Always choose routes appropriate for the fitness and experience level of all family members.
Many of the mountaineering routes in Čavle, especially those starting from popular access points like Bela Vodica, Četverosedežnica Radeševo, or Podkilavac, typically have designated parking areas nearby. It's advisable to check the specific route details on komoot for information on starting points and available parking facilities to plan your trip effectively.
The Čavle region is characterized by a fascinating geological structure. You'll encounter the rocky peaks of the Grobnik Alps, which are part of the Dinaric Alps. The Veliki Kamenjak trail, for example, is famous for its impressive dry stone walls, some reaching up to 4 meters high. The challenging Bijele Stijene Trail is also known for its large stones, resembling paths through 'White Rocks,' requiring hands and feet for ascent.
While the main routes are popular, the extensive network of trails in the Grobnik Alps and around Platak means you can often find quieter paths. Exploring routes that diverge from the most well-known summits, or visiting during off-peak times, can lead to a more solitary experience. The region's diverse topography offers many hidden gems for those willing to explore beyond the immediate popular trails.
Generally, dogs are welcome on hiking and mountaineering trails in Croatia, including the Čavle region, provided they are kept under control, especially around wildlife and other hikers. It's always recommended to keep your dog on a leash, carry waste bags, and ensure they are fit enough for the chosen route. Always check for specific local regulations or protected areas that might have restrictions before you go.
Yes, the area features mountain huts that can serve as resting points or places to refuel. For example, the Hahlić Mountain Hut loop from Podkilavac is a popular route that leads to a mountain hut. Platak, a year-round excursion site, also offers facilities including cafes and restaurants, making it a convenient base or stop for refreshments during your mountaineering adventures.
Mountaineers using komoot often praise the challenging ascents and the diverse mountain environments found in Čavle. The region is known for its rocky peaks, the dramatic Grobnik Alps, and the panoramic views of the Kvarner Bay. The unique blend of mountain and sea climates, along with varied flora and fauna, also contributes to a memorable experience for those exploring the trails.
