This memorial stone marks the former site of Scharfeneck Castle near Baiersdorf. The inscription on the stone provides information about the history of the castle and its inhabitants. Details about Scharfeneck Castle Location: The memorial stone stands at the spot where Scharfeneck Castle once lay, near the ERH 5 road towards Baiersdorf. History: The complex was the residence of the Burgraves of Nuremberg from 1406 onwards. Famous resident: Margrave John the Alchemist died here in 1464. Destructions: First destroyed in 1553. Rebuilt in 1627. Destroyed again in 1632. Current state: The ruin was dismantled in 1892, which is why today only the memorial stone commemorates the former structure.

Very beautiful castle that was extensively renovated a few years ago. Rumor has it that there is a secret underground passage to the castle from a house in the old town center. It is not our house, although we have a small walled-up room in the basement where we don't know what is behind it. We have never made the effort to open the room since we have had the house (since 1993). The basic house dates from 1939

Originally a fortified moated castle, of which the surrounding walls and a tower from 1574 still exist. The castle that now stands was given a baroque makeover from 1709, of which parts of the old complex are still preserved in the north wing. The south wing was built from 1719. As the former property of the Imperial Baron von Seckendorff, Weingartsgreuth Castle has been owned by the heir, Baron von Seckendorff-von Witzleben, since 1962. https://wachenroth.de/ortsteile/weingartsgreuth/
