Kattegattleden Coastal Cycle Path

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Last year 2016 from Malmö to Gothenburg drove, thus the Kattegatleden. Absolutely family-friendly (my 8-year-old daughter has mastered this too). Great landscapes, small nice villages, always in the atmosphere of the coast, very well developed. All in all, the way is worthwhile.

The infrastructure is just as good as Malmö is well accessible from Trelleborg and from Gothenburg you can take the night ferry back to Kiel.

Tjolöholm Castle

Highlight • Castle

The current castle was built between 1898 and 1904 according to plans by architect Lars Israel Wahlman in the Tudor style. Surrounding the castle is a castle park, crisscrossed by hiking trails and extending to the Kungsbacka Fjord. The castle can be visited during the summer months.

The extensive castle garden faces the sea, and the property features kilometers of walking paths between oak forests and along shore meadows. The castle garden, the castle park, and the nature reserve are open to visitors year-round.

Borrås Skåra Gorge

Highlight (Segment) • Gorge

The crevice is approximately 100 meters long, ten meters deep, and 0.5-2.5 meters wide. It originated around 100 million years ago in a weak point in the rock. Over time, erosion and weathering have created the crevice.

When Kattegattleden was being planned, one of the landscape architects involved described this stretch as among the most scenic parts of the entire trail — and it’s easy to understand why. Thank you for the beautiful pictures! If you are interested in local cultural history, don’t miss the old healing spring “The Vicar’s Well” (Prostens Källa). The spring later became part of the story that turned Särö into a renowned royal seaside resort during the 18th and 19th centuries. The spring lies right by the entrance to the Hördalen nature reserve, home to ancient oak trees — some more than 700 years old, one even large enough to step inside. A beautiful place for a picnic, especially in spring when the forest floor is covered with anemones. Several small guesthouses and B&Bs can also be found nearby for those exploring the area more slowly.

Beautiful waterfall. Unfortunately, we didn't have the full water, but it was still beautiful to see. It looks even more impressive from below than from above.
