Parc naturel des Ruisseaux is Chambly’s largest park, covering about 47 hectares of forest and wetland, with nine small streams running through it, giving the park its name. Red maple and trembling aspen make up most of the woods, mixed with black ash and white pine, and 26 bird species have been recorded here, including cedar waxwings and grey catbirds. Around 5 kilometres of walking trails wind through the park, with fat-bike and cross-country ski trails in winter. Keep an eye out for interpretive signs along the way that explain the plants and wildlife around you.

Sentier Maurice Cullen is one of six trails in Parc naturel des Ruisseaux named after people who left their mark on Chambly. Cullen was a landscape painter known as the best painter of snow, and he settled in Chambly in 1926, working from a studio on Rue De Richelieu. The trail winds through the park's forest and wetland, and on a snowy day it's easy to see what drew him to scenes like this.

Sentier Suzanne Fréchette honours the horticulturist who spent nearly 30 years with Chambly's public works department, where she was the first permanent female employee. She championed greener streets and biodiversity across the city, one planting at a time. As you walk through the park's red maple and aspen woods, the trail feels like a fitting tribute to her work.

The historic mountain house is now a cafe with indoor seating and an outdoor patio. A sign outside the old stone house tells you about its history. This is a nice spot to stop for coffee, tea, or a bite to eat as you explore the park.

This welcoming location offers unique architectural heritage in a magnificent setting on the banks of the Richelieu River. Home to the only fort in the greater Montreal area, the site is a witness to the indigenous settlements, the New France military occupation, and the British strategic positions during the 1812 war.

A fairly technical hike with some difficult sections requiring the assistance of ropes. We had to stop because my wife was too scared in the steepest sections. I only recommend this hike to experienced hikers.
