Kamniška Koča Mountain Hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Kamniška koča is situated just a few meters below the Kamniški saddle, located between Brano and Planjava. The hut which is open in the expanded summer season also has a winter room. For a better view we have to climb to a three-minute remote saddle from which we see the Logar Valley and in the hollow of only this waterfall Rinka with its Eagle's Nest. It is nice to see the mountain Mrzlo, Brano and Planjavo. To the hut, which is part of the Slovenian hiking trail, a freight lifts leads to the transport of food and other necessary items for the supply of huts.

Velenje Lake Beach

Highlight • Beach

The largest coal deposit in Slovenia is located underground in the Šalek Valley. More than 230 million tons of coal have been mined in that area. Mining activity has permanently marked the image of the valley and its people. Where once there were villages, today there are lakes, the result of almost 150 years of lignite extraction.

With a surface area of almost 1.4 km² and a volume of over 30 million m³, Velenje is the largest of the three lakes in the Šalek valley and among the largest in Slovenia, comparable to that of Bled. Its catchment area extends for more than 20 km². The lake is 1.4 km long and 1.3 km wide. With a depth of 54 m it is deeper than Lake Bled (31 m) and Lake Bohinj (45 m). On the south-eastern shore, at Plaža Velenje, there is a very popular beach, declared the best natural beach in Slovenia in 2018 and 2022. This place offers many opportunities for sailing, windsurfing, SUP and rowing. The area can count on numerous rooms, equipment, and an inflatable water park.

Nestled among green hills, it is also a fantastic place for family travellers. There is no shortage of entertainment, as well as opportunities to play sports or stay near the lake. Relaxation is ensured by clean water, services, free use of deck chairs and tidy wooden surfaces.

Rudijev Dom, Donačka Gora

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Description
The home is located on Polajžar's lawn in Sedel, below the top of Donačka gora, which was named after the church of St. Donat. The old name of the mountain is Rogaška gora, as it looks like a horn from Rogaška Slatina. The first hut was built just below the peak by the Rogaška branch of the SPD from Rogaška Slatina and opened on May 26, 1929. It was burned down during the war in 1943, but was not rebuilt later. PD Sloga Rogatec decided in 1974 to build a new home. They searched for a suitable location for two years, and in 1976 they started building a mountain home. In 1977, the road to the home was repaired and widened, and then in 1980, the lower premises were arranged and a refuge was arranged for mountaineers. Due to financial problems, the home and log cabin (outbuilding) were extended and opened only on June 23, 1984. At the opening, the most deserving member, Feliks Zalezina, cut the ribbon at the front door. Later, during the celebration of the 40th anniversary of PD (June 11, 1988), the mountain lodge was named after a local, cultural and sports worker and long-time member Rudi Lebič (1929-1984), who also worked during the construction of the lodge.
There are 80 seats and a bar in the catering area, 100 seats at the tables in front of the house, 20 beds in 5 rooms, and an additional 40 beds in the shared beds. The home has a toilet, a washroom with hot and cold water, a dining area (heated by a rustic stove) with running water and electricity.

Boč Summit (978 m)

Highlight • Summit

Boč is a mountain in the Bočko Mountains, southeast of Poljčane. Bočko, also the Konjiška pogorje, stretches from the gorge of the river Paka near Huda Luknja in the west to the western edge of Varaždinska Podravina. The mountain range descends from Paški Kozjak with Basališče (1272 m) in the west to Ravna gora (682 m) in Croatia. Geologically and mountainously, it is the easternmost part of the Karavanke. The barrel is built of limestone and Paleozoic rocks. The slopes are steep and overgrown mostly with beech forests. On Boč there are habitats of rare Alpine and Dinaric plants, among which stand out Easter, fragrant wolf, Turkish lily and beautiful primrose. The habitat of the Easter egg Na Ravni, which is the only one in Slovenia, was appointed a nature reserve by a decree of the Municipal Assembly of Šmarje pri Jelšah. Numerous karst phenomena can also be seen on Boč: caves, caves, sinkholes and valleys. Half an hour above the mountain lodge is in the cliffs on the western slope of Boč, the Balunjača cave, in which, according to folk tradition, lived insulted women, and later bandits, commanded by Orjaška Špelca. At the top, which is a narrow ridge in shape, there is a telecommunication tower and a 20 m high steel lookout set up by PD Poljčane. The first lookout tower was arranged in 1899 by local mountaineers in a basket of beech, whose horned branches were cut down, a stage for 10 people was placed on it and covered with a roof. From the tower there is an extensive view: in the north we can see eastern Pohorje, Dravsko polje and Slovenske gorice, in the east Haloško gričevje, Plešivec, Donačka gora, Macelj, Ravna gora and lvanščica, in the southeast Medvednica, in the south Kozjansko gričevje, Posavsko hribovje, Gorjanci and Gorjanci in the distance Snežnik, in the west Konjiška gora nearby, Stenica, Paški Kozjak, Uršlja gora and Peca, in clear weather also the Savinja Alps and Julian Alps, and in the northwest Pohorje with Rogla.

Smrekovec Mountain Hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The mountain hut stands below the southern foothills of the Smrekovec peak at a height of 1375 m. Passing the hut leads the Slovenian mountain crossing, which comes from the direction of Slemen and continues along the Smrekovo mountain range. Hikers can go from different directions. You can also reach a hut with a car from the direction of Ljubno or from Šaleška or Koroška. At the cottage there are children's playgrounds and a facility with extensive information about the entire Smrekovo mountain range, which is classified in the so-called. Natura 2000, the so far the largest nature conservation program of the European Community for the protection of wildlife and their habitats. Smrekovec is also the only volcanic mountain in Slovenia. Many people do not know that its time was an active Smrekovec volcano, so we find it far in the soil of rocks that are the product of lava or ash. Spruce vulcanism was active about 30 million years ago in the geological periods of tertiary: oligocene and miocene. From the house the view is a bit limited, for which we will be rewarded if we climb from the hut to the top of the same peak - Smrekovec. The home is permanently open during the summer and otherwise during the weekends. Good food and hospitable staff. You are welcome.

A small bar (coffee, beer, wine, soda, snacks) intricately built into the rock with a beautiful view of the Rinka waterfall. A dream when the weather is nice. The hut was built in 1968.

August 3, 2025, Rinka Waterfall

The Rinka Waterfall is one of Slovenia's most beautiful and most visited natural attractions and is considered the source of the Savinja River. It is particularly impressive in spring and autumn with its large volume of water, while you can enjoy the view with a drink in the nearby Orlovo gnezdo.
