January 24, 2024, Minaret Vista and summit

Minaret Vista offers a stunning view of Mammoth Lakes' iconic skyline, the Minarets, which are part of the Ritter Range. You will recognize them by the sharp, jutting spires that are outstanding. You can also spot Mount Ritter at 13,157 feet and Banner Peak at 12,945 feet (3,945 meters), the two tallest peaks in the range.

If you don't have a bike there are plenty of places to rent from so you can take advantage of the many miles of road and trails. If you ever need to meet up with someone just say you'll find them at the iconic Mammoth statue and you won't have any trouble finding each other.

The Mountain View Trail is more like a mountain bike trail that either gets you from the Earthquake fault up to Minaret Summit or easily downhill in the other direction. But you can also hike the 5.5 miles if you want to enjoy the mountain views a little longer. Just be careful, there could be mountain bikers coming towards you.

A great place to park for trails off Minaret Summit. However the ranger station is open from 9:00 am-5:00 pm during operation season. It is a fee area & also offers a shuttle bus during operation season.

The Obsidian Dome and its neighbors Glass Creek and Deadman Dome all erupted in early fall of 1350. Scientists were able to date this last volcanic activity based on tree rings. In this eruption, magma flew into large amounts of groundwater which led to massive explosions that formed the nearby Inyo Craters.
