The powder magazine is located in the city center and belonged to the city fortifications. The construction manager of the Cosel fortress, which was built around the mid-19th century, was the engineer Gerhard Cornelius von Walrawe, an architect of numerous fortifications, including those in Glatz and Stettin. In Cosel, there were also ten other powder magazines. The brick building has architectural decoration made of red bricks. The floor cornices are decorated with brick mouldings. The powder magazine has windows on the south side and slit openings on the north side, which played a role in defense. Today, the building has been renovated and is in very good condition; it is used for commercial purposes.

The first lock on the course of the Oder. "The Coseler Lock, along with the stone weir, was built in 1830. During the regulation of the Oder in the first half of the 19th century, numerous such water facilities were built. In 1904, the lock was rebuilt, making passage possible for cargo ships, the so-called "Berliners". It was part of the route to Ratibor, which, however, was never used in its entirety. After the flood in 1997, the bank repairs began. A new weir was built and the lock was renovated. The gates are still operated by muscle power (for small boats) to this day!

As you leave Stara Kuźnia towards Kędzierzyn, the access road to the Forest District is on your right. The observation tower can be seen from a distance through the trees.

It's a great place for a stroll. A monument to Pope John Paul II was erected between the trees. On a hill is a memorial to the victims of World War II (the Reconciliation Monument). I remember other details (a star? etc. - but I may be mistaken).
