We're camping here tonight, too. Besides us, there's only one other camper with a caravan. The staff is very friendly, but they don't seem to promote camping here much. A beautiful and refreshing swimming lake, a bar, and a restaurant with simple (fast food) meals. I can recommend it, especially since it's the first campsite after Maribor.

Mahrenberg Castle is a former medieval castle, the ruins of which are located above the settlement of Radlje ob Dravi. It was built in the 12th century as an important fortress to control the Drava valley. Today, only the remains of the walls and some buildings have been preserved, testifying to its former strategic and architectural value. The ruins are accessible via a marked path and offer a beautiful view of the surroundings.

It's also a great place to camp overnight, but the owners don't seem to be that well-prepared for bike campers. 😉 A good option for a stop on the leg to Maribor.

From the outside, this church looks very unusual and interesting. It was only inaugurated in 2010. Unfortunately, it was closed so we couldn't visit it. What a pity.

Slovenian law forbids smoking inside (closed!) dining areas! Despite the non-smoking sign on the wall, there was smoking at three out of four tables (the 4th was mine, in the farthest corner). Not only that: there were ashtrays on those tables! Assuming that those people didn't bring their own ashtrays I must conclude that staff (which should ask them not to smoke) actually supports this behavior. Shame! All this smoking was accompanied with Croatian/Serbian music blasting from loudspeakers ("Radio Aktual"), so the entire scene felt rather like somewhere in the Balkans, not in Slovenian mountains.

The town of Slovenj Gradec (German: Windischgrätz) is located in the lower valley of the Mislinja. It is the end and starting point of the Slovenian Mountain Trail. Accordingly, you will find everything you need before or after a multi-day tour in the town.

The Grmovšek Hut (Slovene: Grmovškov dom pod Veliko Kopo) is a mountain hut below the Veliko Kopa at an altitude of 1,377 metres. The hut was built in 1937 and quickly became a popular stop for outdoor sports enthusiasts. In 1942 it burned down, in 1947 it was rebuilt – and unfortunately burned down again in the same year. The third hut was inaugurated in 1954 and named after Miloš Grmovšek, the then president of the Slovenj Gradec Hiking Association (PD Slovenj Gradec). The hut is a great stop on your hike with everything you need after a long day of hiking.
