August 9, 2026, Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal Walk

The Brecon to Monmouthshire here at Govilon is a tranquil, lock-free section of a this scenic gem of a canal. From Govilon to Crickhowell is particularly pretty and suitable for walking and biking. We biked today and used road bikes (Roubaix Experts) with 32 mm tyres and managed it very easily.

The terrain up through this beautiful forest can vary in intensity as in unable to see, find and to even trodden along on- depending on the recent weather conditions can be a challenge when wet and be mindful that visibility can also disappear quickly the higher you reach when in wet weather conditions and also can be quite steep in some areas depending on which route you decide to take. Yet on a dry clear day the views are truly breathtakingly spectacular.

Beautiful wooden bridge crossing the river, leading up to the forest routes. Scenery of films for sure.

Very nice bridge not for traffic though as it’s a single lane track with passing gaps for pedestrians.
