The Svansjö was considerably larger in the 19th century. At the beginning of the 19th century, people harvested sedges and horsetails here, which represented important winter fodder for the animals. However, towards the end of the century, the forest had become more valuable and ditches were dug around the lake to lower the water level and thus obtain more forest area. Every year during the snowmelt, the Svansjö expands. The plants around the lake are accustomed to the alternation between drought and flooding. Source: Information board
