The primary purpose of the protected forest is to preserve and develop a near-natural mixed forest of sessile oak, hornbeam, small-leaved lime, and European beech, in order to scientifically observe natural forest development and to provide habitat for endangered plants and animals. Particular emphasis is placed on the long-term research of undisturbed forest development, soil and species structure, and its use as a vivid example for silviculture and forestry education. Additionally, the project aims to safeguard forest genetic resources and to maintain and promote biodiversity in naturally occurring communities.

Oderberg's oldest house. It was rebuilt in 1680 by water miller Christian Otte after the devastating city fires of 1670 and 1672.

There is a special advertising pillar here with the “bobble hat” - it still stands proudly in its place and defies the widespread digitalization. The Oderberg association “Perspektive Oderberg” has recognized the value of this beauty and is committed to preserving it. Thanks!

The driveway is marked as a dead end and you can park your car (or similar) at this fork. From here there are several ways to get to the surrounding forest area. In addition to the old bench there is an old & new signpost. But be careful, because the area is partly part of the ASP exclusion zone! ☝️👋
