First stumbled upon the heading of this highlight. I hadn't seen the Adolfosee in connection with the Schwalm-Nette Nature Park. However, an inquiry with Google AI confirmed this, and the nature park lists the lake itself on its website, even offering herb walks there. What I found even more interesting was the information that there are efforts to extend the park area further south in the future and to integrate the Rurtal valley in the Hückelhoven area up to the municipal border near Rurich, including the nature reserve with the bluebells near Baal. Likewise along the Wurm river to Geilenkirchen Source: Kreis Viersen https://share.google/WkFiPuwi1csUjz5fF

During the winter months, the Millicher Halde transforms into a magical lightscape: Lumagica Haldenzauber. As dusk falls, the paths glow with soft colors, art installations appear among the trees, and the old mine spoil heap comes alive with shimmering shapes and music. The walk leads along rolling paths and stairs to the summit – a gentle climb with ever-changing moments of light around every bend. At the top, a panorama of sparkling light figures and views over the dark land below awaits. What was once a symbol of industry now shines as a place of wonder and tranquility. A unique combination of nature, art, and memory.

At the top of the Millicher Halde, a surprising panorama awaits: from the Himmelstreppe, the long staircase that winds like a ribbon across the slope, you look out over the flat surroundings of Hückelhoven and the foothills of the Ruhr region. In clear weather, the view extends far beyond the villages and forests – a quiet reminder of how this former mining site has returned to nature. Young forest grows along the path, heather sprouts between the stones, and birds sing above the rolling hills. Those who make the climb in the evening are rewarded with a beautiful sunset: the sky turns orange and purple as shadows slowly drift across the steps. A place where industrial history and tranquility intertwine.

A magical evening stroll along the Millicher Halde, where nature and light collide. During the Haldenzauber Light Festival, the former mining site transforms into an enchanting lightscape: paths are illuminated by colorful installations, trees glow softly in the darkness, and dreamy sounds fill the air, perfectly complementing the atmosphere. The climb to the top is short but worthwhile – a panoramic view of the illuminated Ruhr region awaits at the top. Between the artworks, the natural tranquility of the surroundings remains palpable: a unique balance between industrial history, nature, and modern light art. 💡 Tip: Go just after sunset, when the first lights come on and the sky still has a deep blue glow – the most beautiful moment of the evening.
