The baroque hall church was built from 1731 onwards. The stucco in the interior was added in 1732 by Nikolaus Liechtenfurtner. The high altar, built around 1780, is surrounded by a multitude of sculptures on the walls. The large altarpiece between two columns depicts the beheading of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, the patron saint of the Pfaffinger church. The neo-baroque side altars were built in 1935. Saint (St.) Catherine is one of the fourteen Holy Helpers and is considered a helper for tongue ailments and speech difficulties. She is the patron saint of schools, philosophical faculties, seamstresses and tailors. (Wikipedia)

The parish of Pfaffing-Biburg - a unique village parish The parish of Pfaffing-Biburg is the only parish in the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising that has two equal parish churches. This is very unusual, especially for a small village community. The reason probably lies in the traditional church of St. Stephen in Pfaffing and the nearby larger village of Biburg.
